Description

SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Laodicea ad Mare. Philip I, 244-249. (Bronze, 24.5 mm, 9.24 g, 6 h). ΑΥΤΟΚ Κ Μ ΙΟΥΛΙ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟC ΣΕΒ Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip to right. Rev. COL LAOD METROPOLEOS / ΔΕ Tyche of Laodicea seated facing, holding cornucopia, with river god swimming to left below her feet; around her, four turreted figures standing and facing towards her (representations of smaller cities in the area?), two to either side, with the inner two presenting wreaths. BMC 110. G&M 204 (2012), 1874. Extremely rare and possibly the third known example. About very fine.
