CILICIA. Hierapolis-Castabala. Commodus, 180-192. (Bronze, 33 mm, 16.58 g, 5 h). Ι-EΡΟΠΟΛEΙΤΩΝ ΚΑCΤΑΒΑΛEΩΝ Draped bust of youthful Dionysus, wearing ivy wreath, holding thyrsus over his far shoulder; bunch of grapes to right. Rev. ΑVΤ ΚΑΙ Μ ΚOΜOΔΟC EYΤYΧ Commodus in military dress standing facing, head to left, holding Nike and long scepter. RPC IV online 6184. SNG von Aulock 5575. With a fine green patina; particularly rare, especially without the usual countermarks. Very fine.
In contrary to the way this type is depicted in RPC, the structure of this coin proves that Commodus is actually on the reverse die. Maybe this is the reason behind the coin being so rare...
