Late series with bevelled edge, Samosata, c. 54-65. ΒΑCΙ• MEΓ• ANTIOXOC • EΠI• Diademed and draped bust of Antiochos IV to right; round countermark punched against neck, containing anchor flanked by A-N. Rev. KOMMAΓHNΩN Capricorn to right; above back, five-rayed star; below, anchor; all within laurel wreath. Kovacs 256 var (latin C instead of Greek Σ, possibly indicating a date close to 66AD). RPC I 3855. For c/m: Kovacs 2. Howgeco 373. With an elegant portrait, nicely struck and clear; a rare variety. Very fine.
The countermark seems to have been applied on the coin after around 69 AD.
