Description

LUCANIA. Poseidonia. Circa 410-350 BC. Nomos (Silver, 17.5 mm, 7.65 g, 8 h). Poseidon striding to right, brandishing trident and with chlamys over his shoulders; behind, laurel branch; to right, head of ketos downwards. Rev. ΠΟΣΕΙΔΑΝ[IATAN] Bull standing to right on ground line; in exergue, uncertain symbol (popey-head?). HN Italy 1139c. Kraay 19. SNG ANS 695 ( same dies ). A very rare variety and unusually complete despite the low condition. Toned. Minor scratch and graffito on the reverse, otherwise, good fine.
