Description

Justin II, 565-578. Tremissis (Gold, 19 mm, 1.49 g, 5 h), Constantinople. D N IVSTI - NVS PP AVC Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Justin to right. Rev. VICTORIA AVGVSTORVH / CONOB Victory advancing to right, her head turned to left, holding wreath in her right hand and cross set on globe in her left; in field to right, star. DOC 13. MIB 11a. SB 353. A remarkably attractive, lustrous piece struck on a particularly broad flan. With a tiny edge crack and a slightly double-struck reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.

From the Trausnitz Collection, ex Lanz 85, 26 November 1997, 844.

This coin is, frankly, spectacular! In fact, when you consider how repulsive the tremisses of Justin II often are (crinkled, worn, bent, etc.), this coin is simply magnificent!.
