Description

Anastasius I, 491-518. Miliarense (Silver, 21 mm, 4.39 g, 6 h), Constantinople. D N ANASTA-SIVS P P AVG Pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Anastasius to left. Rev. GLORIA RO-MANORVM / COB Emperor, nimbate and in military dress, standing facing, with his head turned to left, raising his right hand and holding globus in his left; to right, below globus, star. DOC 11 ( but the breaks in the reverse legend differ ). MIB 17b. SB 9. Extremely rare. Mottled toning but with a superb reverse. Obverse struck from a rusty and slightly worn die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine/extremely fine.
