Description

PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Darios I to Xerxes II, circa 485-420 BC. Daric (Gold, 16 mm, 8.38 g), Lydo-Milesian standard, Sardes. Persian king moving to right, crowned, wearing robes and in the running-kneeling position, with quiver over his shoulder, holding his spear in his right hand and his bow in his left. Rev. Oblong irregular incuse. BMC Arabia pl. XXV, 26. Carradice Type IIIb Group A/B (pl. XIII,27). Sunrise 24. Struck from the same reverse die as CNG 100 (2015), 109. Toned and very well-struck from an unusally well-engraved obverse die. Extremely fine.
