Description

CRETE. Lyttos. Circa 320-270 BC. Stater (Silver, 25.5 mm, 10.62 g, 6 h). Eagle with spread wings flying to left. Rev. ΛΥΤΤ-ION Head of boar to left, all within incuse square bordered by dots. Le Rider pl.VII, 22-23 ( same obverse die, but reverse with boar's head to right ). Svoronos 35, pl. XXI, 25 var. ( differing inscription ). Toned and well-centered; unusual with this arrangement of the ethnic. Obverse struck from a worn die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
