ROMAN COINS
-, Denarius (Silver, 18mm, 3.62 g 7), military mint in Sicily, 42-40 BC. MAG.PIVS.IMP.ITER Pharos of Messana, surmounted by a stature of Neptune standing to right; below, galley to left, with aquila on prow and scepter at the stern. Rev. PRÆF.CLA[S.ET.ORÆ. MAR.IT.]EX.S.C Skylla, with two fish tails and three dogs’ heads, attacking with a rudder to left. Babelon (Pompeia) 22. Crawford 511/4a. CRI 335a. Sydenham 1348. Rare. Nicely toned, of good metal and with very sharp types. Some of the legends off the flan, otherwise , good extremely fine.
