SICILY
Syracuse. Philistis, wife of Hieron II, 275-215 BC. 16 Litrai (Silver, 25mm, 13.38 g 6), 218/7-214. Diademed and veiled bust of Philistis to left. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΙΣΣΑΣ ΦΙΛΙΣΤΙΔΟΣ Nike driving quadriga moving slowly to right; above, ΑΦ. Burnett -. Noble 96, 2011, 4971 ( same dies ). Bright, unusually well-struck and sharp, and with a fine portrait. Some slight crystalization on the edge at 6 on the reverse, as well as a very minor die fault, otherwise , good extremely fine. From a collection in Ticino, formed over 20 years ago.
