BYZANTINE SEALS, Imperial. Alexius I Comnenus, 1081-1118. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 29 mm, 14.79 g, 12 h), Constantinople. IC-XC Christ Pantokrator, seated facing on a square-backed throne, bearded, nimbate, and wearing a tunic and himation, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of gospels in his left; border of dots. Rev. [+AΛΕΞIΩ ΔΕC-ΠO]T TΩ KOMNH Bearded figure of Alexius standing facing, wearing crown with cross and pendilia, divitision, and loros, and holding labarum in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left. Zacos 102d ( but from a bulloterion unrecorded in Zacos ). Seibt 27. Struck on a tight flan, otherwise, good very fine.
