SYRIA, Seleukis and Pieria. Antioch. Q. Caecilius Bassus, Proconsul, 46-44 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 15.45 g, 12 h), Struck posthumously, in the name and types of Philip I Philadelphos, Year Δ (4) of the Caesarean era = 46/5 BC. Diademed head of Philip Philadelphos to right. Rev. [BA]ΣIΛEΩ[Σ] / [ΦIΛ]IΠΠΟΥ / EΠIΦΑΝΟΥΣ / [ΦI]ΛAΔEΛΦ[ΟΥ] Zeus seated on throne to left, holding Nike in his right hand and long spear in his left; below throne monogram of ΔI; in exergue, Δ and thunderbolt; monogram of ANT in inner left field; all within wreath. HGC 9, 1360. McAlee 5b. RPC I 4128.20 ( this coin used as plate coin for type in RPC online ). SC 2491.2. Well centered, with an attractive light cabinet toning. Minor porosity, otherwise, extremely fine.
