Description

THESSALY, Thessalian League. Circa 150-100 BC. Drachm (Silver, 19 mm, 3.80 g, 3 h), struck under the magistrates Gauna and Poly-. [ΓΑΥΑΝΑ] laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. [ΘEΣΣA]/ΛΩN Athena Itonia advancing to right, preparing to hurl spear with her right hand and holding shield with her left arm; across fields, [ΠΟ-ΛΥ]; in outer right field, grape bunch. BCD Thessaly II 819 ( same obverse die ). HGC 4, 213. SNG Alpha Bank 293. Toned. Roughness on the reverse; faint graffito on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
