Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27.5 mm, 16.91 g, 3 h), by the "Demareteion Master", circa 475-470 BC. Charioteer driving slow quadriga to right, holding kentron in right hand and reins with both; above, Nike flying to right and crowning horses. Rev. ΣV-RA-KOΣI-O-N laureate head of Arethusa to right within linear circle; around, four dolphins. Boehringer 390 (V198/R272). HGC 2, 1308. Toned. Old scratch on reverse, otherwise, fine.
