★ Exceptional Reverse Die Recut - From Crab to Lyre! ★

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 500-480 BC. Nomos (Silver, 27 mm, 7.79 g, 12 h). ϘΡΟ ( P retrograde ) Tripod with legs terminating in lion's paw; in left field, crab. Rev. ϘΡΟ ( P retrograde ) Incuse tripod; in left field, lyre. HGC 1, 1446. HN III 2087. cf. SNG Copenhagen 1746. SNG Lloyd 594 ( lyre on reverse ). Toned. Very fine.

The die used to strike the reverse has had the lyre re-engraved from what was a crab
