Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 12.5 mm, 1.78 g, 3 h), Pella, circa 359-355/4. Head of Apollo to right, wearing taenia. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Youth, raising his right hand and holding horizontal palm branch with his left, riding prancing horse to left; below, monograms. Le Rider 24. Cf. SNG Alpha Bank 266-269 (different controls). Cf. SNG ANS 347 (different controls). Very rare and attractive. Lightly toned. Granular surfaces, otherwise, extremely fine.
