Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip V, 221-179 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 34 mm, 15.88 g, 12 h), Pella or Amphipolis, circa 188/7-184. Head of Perseus to left, but with the features of Philip V, wearing a winged Phrygian helmet ornamented with the head of griffin and with a harpa ver his right shoulder. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ΦIΛIΠΠOY Horizontal club; all within oak wreath; above, monogram of AP; below monograms of ΣΩ and ΠΗ; in outer left field, club. HGC 3.1, 1058. Mamroth, Philip, 4. McClean 3635. SNG Lockett 1529. Boldly struck and attractively toned. Light marks, otherwise, good very fine.
