SICILY. Mamertinoi. 275-264 BC. Double Unit (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.39 g, 12 h). ΑΡΕΟΣ Laureate head of Ares to right; behind neck, ear of grain. Rev. [ΜΑΜΕΡΤΙΝΩΝ] ( mostly off the flan ) Bull butting to left. Buceti 9. Calciati 96, 10Ds 3 ( this coin ). Virzi pl. 40, 1206 ( this coin ). Scarce. Clear and attractive. Minor marks, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Gary Davies, and from the collections of H. H. Gutknecht, Münzen und Medaillen GMBH 17, 4 October 2005, 251 and T. Virzi, acquired from J. Hirsch in Geneva in 1922, and previously in the stock of Osman Noury Bey with his original ticket .
