From an old French collection.
The magistrate Hebesas produced a series of staters/tetradrachms: all have the knucklebone on the obverse but, on the reverse, the name can be accompanied by either a varying symbol - a laurel leaf ( same obverse die as this ), a kerykeion ( all struck from the same reverse die; some - as NYS XX, 2009, 119 - struck from the same obverse die as here ), a scallop shell ( on the reverse on the left, as here, and all struck from the same dies as this piece ), or a scallop shell (on the reverse at the top) - or with no symbol at all.
