THRACE. Chersonesos. Circa 480-440 BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.19 g, 12 h). Horseman advancing to right, carrying two spears. Rev. Archaic female head to right, wearing alopekis cap; the whole within incuse square. van Alfen, Identity, 24 (O1/R1) = SNG ANS 7.1, 696 (as Potidaea). Very rare and toned. Some roughness on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

An extremely rare type, once attributed to Potidaia, and with a most unusual portrait on the reverse.
