Description

Aelia Eudoxia, Augusta, 400-404. (Bronze, 15.5 mm, 2.40 g, 1 h), struck under her husband, Arcadius, Constantinople, 1st officina (A). AEL EVDOXIA AVG Pearl-diademed, draped bust of Aelia Eudoxia to right, crowned by manus Dei. Rev. [SALVS] REIPVBLICAE /CONS A Victory seated right on cuirass, supporting shield inscribed with a Christogram set on column. LRBC 2231. RIC X 101. With a wonderful dark green glossy patina and a spectacular and unusual for a little bronze coin portait. Reverse somewhat weak, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
