Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios, 323-317 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 13 mm, 2.11 g, 2 h), in the types of Alexander III the Great, ‘Babylon’, struck under Archon, Dokimos, or Seleukos I, c. 323-318/7. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Zeus seated left on a throne with a back, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; below eagle, wheel above monogram; below throne monogram. Price - (but cf. P191 for a drachm). SNG Saroglos 891, (same obv. die). A very rare variety. Good fine.
