MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 380-350 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 14.26 g, 10 h), struck under the magistrate Alexios. Lion springing right, biting into the hind quarters of a bull collapsing to left with its head raised; in the exergue, ΑΛΕΞΙΟΣ. Rev. ΑΚΑ - Ν -ΘΙΟ -Ν in raised letters on an incuse band around a raised quadripartite square, consisting of four pyramidal stippled mounds, all within a shallow incuse square. Desneux 150. Le Rider, pl. 50, 23 ( same dies ). Tselekas Class XVIII, Group 58, 394a ( this coin ). Beautifully toned, perfectly centered, well-struck from dies of the finest late Classical style, and exceptionally attractive. Extremely fine.
