Description

SICILY. Thermai Himerensis. Circa 350 BC. Litra (Silver, 12 mm, 0.70 g, 5 h). Head of Hera to right, wearing polos ornamented with three palmettes, a pendant earring and a pearl necklace. Rev. ΘΕΡΜΙΤΑΝ Herakles, nude, seated to left on a rock covered by his lion's skin, holding his club with his right hand and resting his left on the rock; in the field to right, bow. Bérend 2.25. Buceti 3A. HGC 2, 1614. SNG ANS 1341. With a wonderful head of Hera on the obverse, struck from dies of the finest ripe Classical style, engraved by a master. Attractively toned. Extremely fine.
