Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, 485-466 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.36 g, 12 h). Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding goad in his right hand and the reins in his left; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. ΣVRAΚΟΣΙ - ΟΝ Pearl-diademed head of Arethusa to right, her long hair falling down the back of her neck, wearing a pearl necklace; around, four dolphins swimming to right. Boehringer 102 (V47/R50, same dies ). Randazzo 258 ( same dies ). Nicely centered and toned. Very fine.
