LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 340-330 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 23 mm, 7.80 g, 1 h). Head of Demeter to right, with a veil hanging over the back of her head and her hair wreathed with grain ears, wearing an earring with three long pendants and a pearl necklace; in the field to right, below Demeter's chin, ΑΠ. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Grain ear with leaf to left; walking on the leaf to left, mouse to left; below leaf, Φ. Gillet 189 ( this coin ). Johnston A.8.15 = de Luynes 500 ( same dies ). Very rare die pair, of fine style and attractively toned. Nearly extremely fine.
