Description

★ Ephesos - or not? ★

IONIA. Ephesos. Circa 245-202 BC. Obol (Silver, 8.5 mm, 0.44 g, 2 h), Rhodian standard. Draped bust of Artemis to right with bow and quiver over her shoulder. Rev. Forepart of stag to left. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Kayhan -. SNG von Aulock -. Klein -. CNG 75, (2007) 374. Very rare, especially with this orientation of the stag. Nearly very fine.

The attribution of this coin to Ephesos is tentative. It might actually come from a city in southern Anatolia, probably Bargylia or somewhere in the region.
