MEROVINGIANS. Uncertain mint. Circa 7th century. Triens (Gold, 13 mm, 0.85 g, 12 h), Maurinus, moneyer. TREDECIACO Draped bust to right; the drapery decorated with a cross. Rev. MAVRINO MO Cross with split ends and pellets within circle of perls surrounded by legend. Apparently unpublished in the standard references. Extremely rare, and possibly unique. Maurinus is known from several issues, none of them matching, while Tredeciaco remains a mistery. The distinctive design of the cross on the reverse shares elements with an issue from Saint-Maurice-d'Agaume (Depeyrot II, p.39, 11). Somewhat rough surfaces and minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
