MEROVINGIANS, Cher. Bourges(?). Circa 675-725. Denier (Silver, 13 mm, 1.11 g). Uncertain legend. Diademed and laureate bust to right. Rev. Uncertain legend. Square with ornamental loop extending from each corner; all within circle of perls. Apparently unpublished in the standard references, but cf. Belfort 5736 & 5760-1 ( for a similar reverse, but with radiate bust ). Exceptionally rare, and possibly unique. Somewhat rough surfaces and marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
