★ Bishop Idoinus ★
MEROVINGIANS, Oise. Senlis. Bishopric, Circa 725-775. Denier (Silver, 10 mm, 1.21 g, 7 h), Idoinus, bishop. ECL in front, small cross; between the letters, pellets. Rev. IDO/EPS; between letters, pellets. Apparently unpublished in the standard references. Extremely rare, and possibly unique. Idoinus (or Odoinus) was a bishop of Senlis in the second half of the 8th century; this coin clearly belongs to his time in office and seems to be the only specimen known. Nearly extremely fine.
From the Childeric Collection of Merovingian Coinage.
