★ ELIGIVS for Saint-Eloi (?) ★
MEROVINGIANS, Oise. Moussy. Circa 7th century. Triens (Gold, 12 mm, 1.18 g, 2 h), Wandelegiselo, moneyer. +MVHCIACO Diademed and draped bust to right. Rev. [...]ALEGSEL[...] Cross on globe; in lower quarters, EI-CI ( retrograde ). Belfort 3556 var. ( this type, but legends slightly different ). Depeyrot II, p.152, 2 ( same ). Crinon & Pol, RN 2016, Reprise du type d’Éloi à Moussy (Seine-et-Marne) au nom du monétaire Wandelegiselo, 20. A rare variant, as the obverse legend of this coin is almost the same as the one recorded for Belfort 3557, while the reverse type is clearly Belfort 3556. Deep toning. Somewhat rough surfaces, otherwise, about extremely fine.
From the Childeric Collection of Merovingian Coinage, acquired from 'Money Time' in 2015.
The EI-CI on the reverse probably refers to ELIGIVS for Saint-Eloi (?).
