ATTICA. Athens. 134-133 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29.5 mm, 16.74 g, 11 h), New style "stephanephoric" coinage, struck under the magistrates Timarchos, Nikagoras, and Lysias. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing a triple-crested Attic helmet, adorned with Pegasos and a long tendril on the bowl, and with four horse protomes on the visor and a pendant earring. Rev. Α-ΘΕ /TIM-APXY (sic!) / NIKAΓ/ ΛYΣΙΑ Owl standing facing on amphora; to left, anchor and star; on amphora, Z (= 7th month ); below amphora, ME (= contractor's initials ); all within olive wreath. BMC 500 ( same dies ). HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 364d. Toned and well-struck. Removed from an NGC holder Graded AU 5/5, 4/5. Nearly extremely fine.
