ΑΥ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC CΕΒ Laureate and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to left, holding spear over left and decorated shield over right shoulder. Rev. ΜΗΤΡΟΠ [ ] / ΕΤ Γ View of Mount Argaeus; c/m Head of Tyche to right within rectangular punch ( GIC 849 ). Bland 2023, 15 = RPC VII.2, 3227. Ganschow 854c. Exremely rare. Reverse slightly off centre, otherwise, very fine.
In his opus magnum on the coinage of Gordian III from Antioch and Caesarea (2023), Roger Bland is aware of only one other specimen of this type. Interestingly, it features the same c/m on the reverse.
