★ Very Rare “Husband and Wife” Issue ★
MYSIA. Parium. Hadrian, 117-138. (Bronze, 15 mm, 2.41 g, 6 h). HADRIANVS AVG P P (D in retrograde) Bare head of Hadrian to right. Rev. HADRIANVS ET SABINA (D in retrograde) Bare head of Hadrian to right facing draped bust of Sabina to left. RPC III, 1544. Very rare. Only six examples in RPC. Rough deposits, otherwise, very fine.
The cleator, obviously a Greek, had difficulties producing Latin letters. Especially the letter D, written retrograde twice, was his enemy! A charming reminder that Roman Provincial coinage could feel foreign to locals!
