★ Desirable and elegant facing Demeter ★

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 330-290 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 19 mm, 7.92 g, 2 h), Atha... Head of Demeter facing, turned slightly to the right, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earrings, and necklace; lower right, tiny AΠ. Rev. META Barley ear with leaf to right; above leaf, bucranium; below leaf, AΘA. HN III 1584. Johnston Class C, 2.5 ( same dies ). Well struck, clear and bright, with a particularly artistic and well centered three-quarters Demeter on the obverse. A beautiful coin. Good very fine.
