Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18.5 mm, 4.27 g, 11 h), struck under Antigonos I Monophthalmos, Abydos, circa 310-301. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on high-backed throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; in field to left, monogram of TIMO; under throne, head to left wearing Phrygian cap. Price 1577. Very sharp details and with an unusual symbol. Extremely fine.
