Description

KINGS OF ARMENIA. Tigranes II, 95-56 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 15.47 g, 12 h), Tigranocerta, 80-68. Bust of Tigranes II to right, wearing diademed tiara with five peaks, ornamented with an eight-pointed star between two eagles, their heads turned back towards the star, and with his cloak tied around his neck; bead and reel border. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΤΙΓΡΑΝΟΥ Turreted and draped Tyche of Tigranocerta seated to right on rocks, holding palm with her outstretched right hand; on rock, monogram of ΔH; at her feet to right, the river god Araxes; in the field to right, Θ; all within laurel wreath. ACV 30. CAA 319. Kovacs 74.2. SCADA Group 4. With a large bust of similar style to the last. Minor marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
