Description

CILICIA. Mallos. Circa 440-390 BC. Obol (Silver, 8.5 mm, 0.75 g, 11 h). Head of bearded Herakles to left, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. Μ Swan, with closed wings, standing to right; above, ankh; to right, grain ear. Cf. Casabonne type 4. SNG Levante 163. Toned as found and with a fine head of Herakles. Some corrosion and minor uncleaned deposits, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Dr. Paul Peter Urone Collection, acquired from Spink's and from the collection of Professor J. C. Brindley, Baldwin's 34, 13 October 2003, 336 (but with an unspeakably bad photograph).
