KINGS OF PAPHLAGONIA. Pylaimenes II/III Euergetes, circa 133-103 BC. Hemiobol (Bronze, 20.5 mm, 7.27 g, 12 h). Bare-headed bust of Pylaimenes, as Herakles, to right, with club over his shoulder and lion's skin tied around his neck. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ /ΠYΛΑΙΜΕΝΟΥ ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤΟΥ Nike standing to left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm branch with her left. HGC 7, 440. RG pg. 127, 1. SNG BM Black Sea 1550. SNG Copenhagen 321. SNG von Aulock 148. A lovely, nicely centered piece, with a brown-red patina on the obverse and with the original brassy bronze surfaces on the reverse. Extremely fine.
