Description

APULIA. Brundisium. Circa 215 BC. Uncia (Bronze, 22 mm, 9.60 g, 9 h). Head of Neptune to right, wearing wreath of water plants; behind his head to left, Victory flying right to crown him; below left, trident; under the head, large pellet. Rev. BR - VN Phalanthos riding dolphin to left; holding Victory in his outstretched right hand and a cornucopiae with his left; in the field to right, club; below, large pellet. HN III 738. SNG ANS 780 ( but in Calabria ). A bold and attractive piece. Struck on a somewhat rough flan, otherwise, about extremely fine.
