Ancient Greek Silver Fractions, the Collection Sans Pareille Part II

Description

CILICIA. Mallos. Circa 440-390 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7 mm, 0.38 g, 3 h). Head of bearded Silenos facing. Rev. Swan walking to left; within a linear border in an incuse square. Cf. SNG Levante 145 and M&M 41, 1970, 270 ( obols with the same types ). Extremely rare, possibly unique in this denomination ). Struck from beautifully and skilfully engraved dies. Toned. Some roughness, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the "Collection sans Pareille" of Ancient Greek Fractions and from the collection of L. Mildenberg, who received it as a present from the Numismatic Department of Bank Leu on Valentine's Day, 14 February 1978.
