THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Uncertain mint. Circa 500-450 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 6 mm, 0.23 g). Head of a bearded satyr to right, with an animal ear and a blunt nose. Rev. Rough incuse square. Apparently unpublished save for its auction appearance, but see Nomos 26, lot 228 for another piece from the Collection sans Pareille, which is clearly from the same mint, but slightly later in date. Extremely rare. Bold and impressive, attractively toned as found. About extremely fine.
From the "Collection sans Pareille" of Ancient Greek Fractions, ex Sternberg XXII, 20 November 1989, 54 (identified as Thasos?).
