This coin refers to the founding myth of Gytheion, according to which, Herakles and Apollo reconciled after their fight over the Oracle Tripod, jointly founded the city. According to Pausanias (3.21.8), the statues of Apollo and Herakles were located in the Agora of Gytheion.
