The design of this type was 'recycled' by the Italian allies revolting against Rome in the so called bellum social in 91-89 BC. To fit its new purpose, the obverse legend of ROMA was replaced with ITALIA, the reverse legend was dedicated to C. Papius Mutilus, the leader of the Samnite army (cf. Campana 5a).
