Description

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 411-340 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.85 g, 1 h). Bearded head of Dionysos to left, wearing ivy wreath with berries at his forehead. Rev. ΘΑΣΙΟΝ Herakles, wearing lion's skin headdress and short hunting chiton, kneeling right, shooting his bow; to right, under Herakles' right arm, cicada to right. BMC 43. Le Rider, Thasiennes 15. West p. 34, 5. Nicely toned and with a particularly fine head of Dionysos. Reverse very lightly double-struck, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
