Description

SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos IV Epiphanes, 175-164 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.55 g, 1 h), Antioch-on-the-Orontes, 168-164. Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY / ΘEOY - EΠIΦANOYΣ / NIKHΦOPOY Zeus seated left on a high-backed throne, holding Nike in his right hand and scepter with his left. HGC 9, 621. Le Rider 266-271. SC 1398. SMA 63. Rare. With a remarkably noble and elegant head of Zeus. Minor flan fault in front of Zeus's beard, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From a European collection, purchased in Munich in the late 1990s.
