Description

CRETE. Phaistos. Circa 330-320 BC. Stater (Silver, 24 mm, 11.52 g, 10 h). Herakles standing facing, resting his right hand on his club and holding his bow and his lion skin in his left; in the field to right, an olive tree; to left, large serpent coiled to right. Rev. Bull walking to left over a wavy groundling; all within a laurel wreath . Le Rider Pl. IV, 3-5. SNG Lockett 2589. Svoronos 13. Nicely toned, well-centered and clear. Traces of overstriking and the obverse struck from a worn die, otherwise, good very fine.
