Description

ATTICA. Athens. Circa 500-490 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 16.65 g, 10 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet, a simple necklace and a disc earring. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl with closed wings standing right, head facing; in the field to left, olive sprig with two leaves and a berry; all within incuse square. Asyut Group IVa. HGC 4, 1590. Seltman Group Gi, uncertain dies, but cf. A123-A130, and P139-P149. Cf. Svoronos pl. 4, 33 and 35. An attractive example with a perfectly centered obverse. Minor marks and struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, good very fine.
