Description

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.90 g, 11 h), struck posthumously in Bithynian Kios, shortly after 281. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king’s name, in her right hand; behind, downwardly pointing transverse spear; in outer left field, club; in inner left field, monogram of ΠΑ; in exergue, bow in bowcase and monogram of ΔIO. HGC 7, 555. Marinescu Issue 38, 135. Müller 410 ( as Erythrae ). Thompson -. With a wonderfully powerful and expressive portrait; a splendid, sharply struck a coin of fine style. Some very minor marks, otherwise, good extremely fine.
