THRACE. Abdera. Circa 473/0-449/8 BC. Stater (Silver, 27 mm, 14.89 g, 1 h), struck under the magistrate Mandronax. Griffin walking to left, his right foreleg slightly raised; to left, 8-rayed star. Rev. EΠI MA-NΔPΩ-NAK-TOΣ in a shallow incuse square around a quadripartite square in relief. May, Abdera, 183 (A147/P153). With an unusual depiction of the griffin walking rather than seated. Areas of flat striking, otherwise, good very fine.
